Patana Pathways – Ayesha
A true lover of Science…
Ayesha’s love for medicine and science is evident purely from the fact that she did ‘suturing’ as a hobby! Starting from Foundation Stage, Ayesha’s Patana Pathway is a reflection of her love for Biology and Chemistry which she thoroughly enjoyed during her (I)GCSE’s and decided to undertake Higher Levels in both the subjects for her IB.
While at Bangkok Patana, Ayesha was the Vice President of Cube Care, Secretary of DiabeOne, founded a public speaking club – Declamation, to help younger students overcome the fear of public speaking and wrote articles for Scientia Magazine. It was while working on her Extended Essay on Period Poverty and Cervical Cancer in Ethiopia that Ayesha and a friend started HerPeriod Dignity, a community club at Patana where they fundraised and did free pad drives to raise awareness. One of the main focuses this year was delivering tutorials for younger Year groups to release the stigma surrounding periods.
“A career in the medical field has always fascinated me, this was further nurtured by my engagement with the (I)GCSE and IB programmes. These academic pathways offered opportunities to not only gain a deeper understanding of theoretical knowledge but also provided me with a platform to apply these understandings to the health disparities we see in the world,” reflected Ayesha. “Within the field of Biomedical sciences, I see the potential to contribute meaningfully, leveraging my understanding of the several branching disciplines of this degree to make a positive impact on global health challenges,” she said.
Ayesha has accepted an offer from The University of Edinburgh to pursue Bio Medical Sciences.
Wishing you the very best, Ayesha!
