Varsity Rugby Team Learn from All Blacks Star Ross Filipo

As you read this, our Varsity Rugby boys have successfully tackled, passed and stepped their way to winning silver in Division 2 at the 2025 SEASAC Rugby 7s tournament in Singapore. Since early November, the team had been putting in the hard yards—pushing through intense fitness sessions, tackling drills, and skill-building exercises—to prepare for this big weekend.

Last week, they had an incredible opportunity to train under Ross Filipo, a highly accomplished former professional rugby player. With a 15-year career spanning across New Zealand, Europe and Japan, Ross even had the honour of wearing the iconic All Blacks jersey at his peak.

During the session, Ross led the boys through a series of drills and conditioned games, focusing on key areas like creating and exploiting space in attack, optimising muscle mechanics for greater power and mastering technical skills to dominate the breakdown. His expert guidance and personalised adjustments had a noticeable impact on each player, significantly elevating their game.

We are extremely grateful to Ross for sharing his time and expertise.
