Year 4 Discover Solar Power!

All about circuits, solar panels and bulbs!

Year 4 are currently learning about electricity and were in for a treat when they climbed to the top of the Secondary Science Centre to explore the school’s solar panels. Khun Turbo, our Outdoor Technician, guided the students in building simple circuits using miniature solar panels, wires and bulbs. The children were amazed to see the bulbs light up when exposed to sunlight—and go out when shaded—demonstrating how solar energy is converted into electricity.

The excitement grew with demonstrations using larger panels powering fans, multiple bulbs and even a small solar-powered car. Students experimented with panel angles to maximise speed before racing their cars. They were fascinated to learn that these panels supply around 20% of the building’s electricity, with more panels located throughout the school.

Back in class, students explored the global shift towards renewable energy. They were shown a photo of the kinetic floor at True Digital Park and were thrilled to learn it generates electricity from footsteps! They also discovered how Coldplay, who performed in Bangkok last year, reduce their carbon footprint on tour through similar innovations.

The long climb to the roof was well worth it—it was a truly powerful learning experience. A big thank you to Khun Turbo for bringing our science topic to life!
