Super Stories in Foundation Stage

The Power of Reading

Term 3 in Foundation Stage was full of literacy love. Students enjoyed playing and learning through the Power of Reading (POR) text The Blue Penguin by Petr Horacek. Students celebrated their achievements through a ‘Super Stories’ soft start for parents, for Sarah McCormack and Mr M.

Each class shared their learning with their parents in different ways. Wandering through the building, the love and passion for reading and writing was evident in the form of storytelling, dramatic role play, sign for stories, invented stories, big books, and small books!

Promoting reading and a love of literature from an early age is key in the Foundation Stage and throughout a child’s journey. When young children play at reading, they imitate what they have seen – turning the pages, looking at the pictures, and ‘reading’ the words in a special tone. The aim is to develop a thirst and love for learning by carefully planning sequences of activities that provide meaningful learning experiences.
