Inspired by a Disney mermaid, Year 4 set out to investigate how sound travels under the water.
‘The seaweed is always greener’ or so Ariel the Little Mermaid says…but could she really sing under water? As part of their science learning about sound, Year 4 set out to investigate. How? By jumping into the pool and experimenting of course! Discovering that it is possible to hear sound underwater, they used a variety of musical instruments and even snorkels to test the effect of water on volume and pitch. And the answer? Well, it turns out that you would be able to hear Ariel, but perhaps not as clearly as the Disney film suggests!
