The Art Department at Bangkok Patana School provides a creative, supportive atmosphere in which students can develop an understanding of the basic elements of art and design through experience and imaginative investigation. The teaching aims to stimulate an appreciation of art and design and the richness of our culture.
One of the attractions of studying Art at Bangkok Patana School is the variety of media that students have access to such as large etching press and smaller presses, silk-screening, photography, ceramics and collage. Examination courses are essentially practical focusing on painting and drawing, design or photography. Students create thematic coursework portfolios. International Baccalaureate students are encouraged to make meaningful, critical and contextual links between their work and that of other artists and cultures while making personally relevant artwork. Examples of work from all levels are continually exhibited around the school and in external venues. Students develop their practical skills while studying colour, tone, line, form, pattern, texture, design and composition. They experience a variety of techniques to communicate their ideas visually.
All students in Years 7, 8 and 9 study art and it is a popular choice at (I)GCSE and for IB. Pupils regularly gain places at leading Art Colleges. Examination courses are essentially practical although there is also a written element. They are encouraged to make meaningful, critical and contextual links between their work and that of other artists, and pupil work is continually exhibited around the school and in external venues.
The Department works as a team to deliver high quality teaching and excellent standards of achievement.
