A Week of Change: WasteLessWeek #10
Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair and Reimagine
As our 10th year of WasteLess Week came to a close, the echoes of conversations and learning still lingered in the air. It was a reminder of a shared commitment to sustainability, to rethinking habits and to empowering our students as the innovators, advocates and stewards of our planet’s future.
From the very start, our community came together with purpose. Our youngest learners in Foundation Stage took on the challenge of reducing food waste, celebrating their “empty plates” with pride, while our IBDP ESS students took on the numbers, carefully measuring the impact of #WLW10. The before and after data told a story of awareness and action—proof that small changes lead to real results.
More than just numbers, the week was also about creativity, collaboration and commitment. Our student leaders, supported by our Business teams, turned ideas into reality through the four pillars of The Alliance for Sustainable Schools: Sustainable School Transport, Sustainable School Food, Sustainable School Uniforms and Education for Sustainability.
Looking back, so many moments stand out:
🌱 The life-sized Eco Heroes at the front of school, a perfect reminder (and photo opportunity!) of the real-life heroes we can be every day.
🥤 The #WLW10 special edition smoothie, blending local produce with student creativity—delicious and sustainable!
👕 The United Wardrobe Project Clothing Stall, where pre-loved fashion found new life, proving that thrifted treasures are a powerful way to fight fast fashion.
📚 The Libraries transforming into green spaces, where students quite literally got their hands dirty learning about sustainability.
📸 And of course, the SEC Instagram buzzing with moments of action, inspiring us all to keep the momentum going.
Perhaps one of the most powerful moments was the CPL session led by our students—a reminder that education is not just about what we teach but also about what we learn from those we mentor. And who could forget the plant-based Khao Soi in the Secondary canteen? A crowd favourite, reimagined for the planet.
As Waste Less Week comes to an end, the real challenge begins: carrying these lessons forward. Sustainability isn’t about a single week; it’s a mindset, a way of being and a responsibility we all share. If this week has shown us anything, it’s that when a community comes together with a shared goal, the impact is undeniable.
So, let’s keep the momentum going. Let’s continue to rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle, repair and reimagine a future where we leave a lighter carbon footprint.
