Celebrating Year 12 IB Science Investigations
Investigating principles in motion
Over the past week, our Year 12 IB students in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) stepped off their regular timetable to immerse themselves in their Internal Assessments, an essential component of the IB Diploma Programme. For four dedicated days, students engaged in independent scientific inquiry, exploring research questions of their own choosing and designing bespoke methodologies to investigate them.
This experience not only deepened their understanding of the scientific method but also fostered critical thinking, creativity and resilience. From analysing water quality in local ecosystems to exploring reaction rates and investigating principles of motion, students demonstrated impressive initiative and academic rigor.
Teachers were on hand to guide and support, but the spotlight was firmly on student-led exploration. The atmosphere across the labs and breakout spaces was one of curiosity and collaboration, with students taking ownership of their learning in a truly authentic way.
We are incredibly proud of the commitment and enthusiasm shown by our Y12 cohort. Their work reflects the spirit of inquiry that lies at the heart of the IB sciences, and we look forward to seeing the final outcomes of their investigations.
