Year 6 has Heart!
‘How do we educate others to make healthy lifestyle choices’
Year 6 students will spend the next few weeks on their new learning theme ‘Heartbeat’. Their guiding question through their ‘entry point’ is: How do we educate others to make healthy lifestyle choices? This stimulated curiosity and led to many questions.
Through learning about CPR and practising techniques on dummies, students began to consider how the Circulatory System works and how it can be affected – they considered the function of the heart; how oxygen affects the brain and the importance of CPR.
In Minecraft, a whole new world was made available to them – a virtual journey through the circulatory system, exploring it’s major structures and blood flow. Throughout this journey, students collected information, recorded unfamiliar or interesting vocabulary and made a note of areas that interested them so to find out more about these throughout our theme.
As the students continue to find out more, they will soon be able to educate others to make healthy lifestyle choices!
