Stepping Into the Shoes of a PE Teacher
Training future leaders
This week, our Year 6 students took on the exciting challenge of leading PE activities for younger students as part of the PlayMaker Leadership Curriculum. Over the past few weeks, they have been developing key leadership skills in their PE lessons—exploring what makes an effective leader, learning different communication techniques and planning fun and engaging sessions.
Our Sports Leaders unit of work introduces students to leadership by equipping them with the skills to organise and deliver small games and activities. It develops confidence, teamwork and communication while encouraging our students to be responsible and adaptable.
During their sessions, our Year 6 sports leaders ensured activities were inclusive, adapting games so all KS1 pupils could participate. Seeing them step up, take charge, and create a fun and supportive environment was fantastic. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and the younger students had a brilliant time—smiles all around!
