Year 7s foray into Secondary Mathematics is off to a stimulating start, playing around with a number of problems that had the students stumped. The first problem’s solution was that there was no solution! The second problem had multiple solutions, so how do we know we have got them all? The third problem needed being systematic to solve a complex problem, the fourth problem needed thinking outside the box and the rest of the problems had everyone scratching their heads!

In Term 1, students will explore the foundations of number, learn the language of algebra and develop a greater understanding of 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional geometry.  Students will have to work hard in order to make sure they can explain their understanding of key concepts and not just learn to repeat the processes. The journey to develop fluency and application whilst developing mathematical communication skills and a strong learner agency starts with our younger students in Year 7. Well done to a great start Year 7!
