Budding Artists in Year 8

Mastering new techniques

Year 8 Art is all about diving into new techniques and embracing the thrill of experimentation! Throughout the academic year, students will embark on three exciting projects, exploring a wide array of 2D and 3D media. Currently, the class is immersed in the vibrant world of serigraphy (screen printing), drawing inspiration from the dynamic works of Beatriz Milhazes. Her art, influenced by the rich cultural heritage, nature and designs of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, sets the stage for a colorful and lively project.

After sketching their initial ideas through observational drawing, students dive into the hands-on process of screen printing. As they practice and refine their techniques, their designs evolve, guided by their growing experience with the medium and their understanding of color theory. This experimental phase is crucial, offering students countless opportunities to reflect, adapt, and develop a unique, autonomous approach to their art. It’s a wonderfully messy journey, filled with creativity and fun!
