Year 8s Learn the Power of Connection

Year 8s Learn the Power of Connection

Strengths in Action

Towards the end of Term 3, Year 8 students took part in a dynamic and insightful well-being session led by Samantha Lauver-Marion from the Asian Institute of Hospitality Management. The workshop focused on recognising and using personal strengths as a powerful tool for networking and effective collaboration: essential skills for the workplace and beyond.

Building on prior work around personality types, students explored how their unique traits can help them connect meaningfully with others. Through interactive discussions and activities, they discovered how to bring their best selves into conversations and partnerships.

Samantha’s engaging delivery struck just the right balance between informative and entertaining, reminding students that while understanding your strengths is serious business, it doesn’t have to be dull. Her real-world examples helped bridge the gap between the classroom and future careers, with students actively participating and reflecting on how their communication style influences teamwork.

By the end of the session, it was clear that Year 8s had not only learned about conversational skills but had also taken a confident step toward the world of work. And yes, they now know that networking isn’t just something adults do over coffee, it’s a skill anyone can learn and use well!
