Young Entrepreneurs in Year 4
A Journey from Curiosity to Creativity
This term, our Year 4 learners at Bangkok Patana School embarked on an unforgettable entrepreneurial adventure through our unit, Young Entrepreneurs. The journey began with an inspiring and interactive entry point led by external facilitators from Master Kids Thailand, who brought the world of business to life. Through imaginative games and persuasive challenges, the children learned early on that successful entrepreneurs are curious, confident and creative – and that sometimes, a good idea is only as powerful as how you communicate it!
The entry point activities, including persuasive pitch games and mystery box challenges, were designed to excite the students and develop foundational enterprise skills such as teamwork, resilience, persuasion and critical thinking; key Characteristics of Effective Learning (CoEL) that underpin our approach at Bangkok Patana. These experiences lit the spark for what was to come.
Throughout the term, students explored how businesses operate in different parts of the world, the importance of sustainability, the value of understanding customer needs and the history of trade and currency. They developed geographical awareness by studying imports, exports and the impact of human activity on communities. In history, they looked back at trade routes and early forms of money. In society, they learned about needs and wants, and the importance of creating a product with purpose.
Using these insights, our budding entrepreneurs worked in teams to design, build and market their very own eco-friendly games – a sustainable twist to the traditional market stall. Using recycled materials and a lot of ingenuity, the children applied their learning practically through product planning, budgeting, design, prototyping and marketing – all with real audiences in mind.
Their hard work culminated in the ‘Funfair Fun 4 All’ event; a vibrant and joyous fair hosted by Year 4 students for the wider school community. The event welcomed children from Year 1 to Year 6 and Year 4 parents, turning the Year 4 area into a hub of innovation, creativity and fun. More than just a showcase, this was a real business opportunity, where students demonstrated enterprise, environmental awareness and leadership.
From enthusiastic pitches and eye-catching signage to games that tested skill and creativity, our students embraced every challenge. Through this process, they not only demonstrated growth in their academic knowledge but also in vital personal learning goals: adaptability, cooperation, communication, enquiry and resilience – the very skills our future global citizens need.
We are immensely proud of our Year 4 entrepreneurs, and grateful to the families who supported their journey. Their work reminds us that when children are given the space to lead, explore and innovate, they rise – and they inspire us all.
