Diversity Digest is a weekly reflection written by staff from different areas of our school

This week’s Diversity Digest celebrates the inaugural Patana Vege Fest, as part of the broader Bangkok Climate Action Week. What we eat is a big part of our identity and is shaped by our culture, heritage, values, religious beliefs and more. We are also reminded what a privilege it is to be able to choose what we eat and when, as food insecurity is a growing global concern.
Plant-based eating focuses on foods that come mainly from plants, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. It can take many forms, from flexitarian diets, which occasionally include meat, to vegetarian diets, which exclude meat, and vegan diets, which avoid all animal products. Some people choose plant-based eating for health benefits, such as improving heart health and increasing fibre intake. Others are motivated by environmental concerns, as plant-based foods often require fewer natural resources. Animal welfare, cultural beliefs, and personal values also influence food choices. Whatever the reason, plant-based eating offers a flexible approach to nourishing both people and the planet. Ahead of Resi’s do you know the dietary preferences of your students?
