Primary FOBISIA Maths Competition 2026

By Tanya Peake-Hutchins, Assistant Leader: Support for Learning and Enrichment Teacher

From March 5th-8th, four Year 6 students participated in the FOBISIA Maths Competition hosted by Dulwich College Pudong in Shanghai. Students from 44 teams, travelling from 10 different countries across Asia, came together for this exciting and demanding two-day event. This annual competition gives students the opportunity to put their Mathematical skills to the test while also strengthening their collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity.

Throughout the competition, the students completed ten rounds of mathematically themed challenges, including an escape room, a maths trail around the school, and a construction challenge, as well as a variety of logic problems and puzzles. These all tested teamwork, problem-solving, Mathematical real-world applications and individual skill.

In addition to the main competition, all Key Stage 2 students were invited to participate in a ‘Top of the Rocks’ competition through Times Tables Rocks Stars, adding an exciting school-wide element to the event.

Throughout the trip, our students demonstrated maturity, collaboration, resilience, and a sense of humour.  Students commented that they especially enjoyed using their Maths skills in a fun, collaborative way during the Escape Room round, although they found the outdoor  Maths Trail very cold compared to Bangkok! 🙂
