The Transport team has completed the key preparations for the upcoming Residential trips, with a strong focus on ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students throughout their journeys.
Key Safety Measures in Place
- Vehicle Inspections: All 18 coaches and 14 vans have undergone inspections by the Department of Land Transport (DLT) at the intervals prescribed by the DLT, followed by additional inspections by Transport staff to ensure vehicle safety and readiness for the trips. All 18 coaches are single-deck vehicles.
- Pre-Trip Route Inspection: A van has carried out a pre-visit to check the planned routes and road conditions to help ensure the journeys are suitable for travel. The van will also accompany the trip to provide additional support if required.
- Spare Drivers: One spare driver will be allocated to each trip to provide additional support and help manage unexpected situations.
- Alcohol and Substance Screening: All trip drivers, including spare drivers, will undergo alcohol and cannabis testing before departure.
- Highway Police Coordination: The Transport team has informed the Highway Police of the planned routes to support journey coordination.
- Journey Tracking: The location of each vehicle can be tracked while travelling, allowing the Transport team to monitor journeys and provide support when needed.
- Evacuation Training: All staff accompanying the trips have received training on bus safety procedures and emergency evacuation, helping them respond appropriately in an emergency.
- Driver Student Safeguarding Training: Drivers have received student safeguarding training to reinforce their responsibilities in protecting students and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns during trips.
- 24-Hour Medical Support and Emergency Transportation: A nurse will be available 24 hours a day throughout each residential trip to support students’ medical needs, with transportation ready and available if required.
With these preparations in place, the Transport team will continue to work closely with trip organisers, drivers and accompanying staff to support safe, well-coordinated journeys for all students.
Safety is our priority. We wish all students and staff a safe and successful residential trip!
