International Dance Day is an annual worldwide event celebrated on 29th April. This year, the Dance Academy chose to mark the occasion by introducing its first International Dance Day Assemblies, bringing Primary students and staff together in a vibrant celebration of movement, creativity and community.
The festivities began with the Key Stage 1 (KS1) assembly on Friday 24th April, where young audiences were treated to delightful performances from Dance Academy students. Mika (Year 1) captivated with a graceful character Ballet solo, while Heidi and Elise (Year 2) brought energy to a lively Theatre Jazz duet.

The celebrations continued with the Key Stage 2 (KS2) assembly on Wednesday 29th April, showcasing an exciting range of styles and talent. Performances included dynamic Theatre Jazz pieces by Summer (Year 4) and Lisa (Year 3), an elegant ballet solo by Felicia (Year 3), and high-energy hip hop routines from Sonya (Year 6) and Kaycee (Year 4), highlighting the breadth of dance opportunities available within the academy.

The performances across both assemblies were a joy to watch, with dancers demonstrating confidence, expression and a genuine love of movement.
At the heart of both assemblies was a simple message: dance is for everyone! To bring this to life, Coach Sarah, supported by Coaches Nanzie, Aum and Mux, led students and teachers through a fun and accessible choreographic activity. The result was truly memorable – approximately 300 KS1 students and 600 KS2 students dancing together in unison, creating a sea of smiles across the hall.

Each assembly concluded with the much-anticipated second edition of the Corridor Choreography campaign. Back for its second year, Patana community has once again proven that you really can dance anywhere. Students, staff, families and colleagues across the school took on a simple but joyful challenge: choose a corridor, create a short piece of choreography inspired by the space, and capture it on film. The result? A collection of energetic, creative and good-humoured performances that celebrate movement, connection and community.
This campaign is all about inclusivity, engagement and fun. There’s no pressure for perfection – just the freedom to have a go, share a giggle and enjoy moving together. From classrooms to corridors, and across all areas of the school, Corridor Choreography 2026 showcases the spirit of Patana at its best.
Thank you to everyone who danced, filmed and cheered from the sidelines! The final result is a spirited video montage of the Patana community enjoying dance at all levels and across all genres, just for fun!
Together, the assemblies captured the spirit of inclusivity, creativity and shared joy that dance brings to all. We can’t wait for next year already!
