Starting a new school year is an exciting time, filled with opportunities to make new friends, strengthen existing relationships, and become part of a supportive class community. In Year 3, we place great importance on helping children build positive connections with those around them, creating an environment where they feel confident, valued and ready to learn.

Throughout the year, children take part in activities that help them get to know one another and celebrate what makes each person unique. In well-being lessons, they create personal shields and share photographs from home, giving classmates a glimpse into the people, places and experiences that are important to them. These activities encourage children to appreciate both the similarities and differences within our community.

Creating a positive classroom culture is something we do together. At the start of the year, each class develops its own shared agreements, discussing how they would like their classroom to feel and how they can support one another. This helps establish a respectful and caring environment where every child has a voice and feels comfortable contributing.

Friendships play a significant role in Year 3 life. Through collaborative learning, games and team-building activities, children develop trust, learn to work together and discover the value of supporting one another. These experiences help strengthen relationships and foster a sense of community within the class.

When children feel connected to those around them, they are more willing to take risks, embrace challenges and show kindness to others.
