On Saturday 5^th September, student leaders from our Community Engagement Committee took part in a student facilitator workshop led by the JUMP! Foundation in preparation for the upcoming student-led Bangkok ServICE Conference. The session was designed to push us out of our comfort zones and focused on developing two main skills: how to command the attention of a crowd, and how to carry oneself with genuine confidence as a leader. Many of us believed standing in front of peers and controlling large groups of people was a big challenge. However, the workshop made that challenge less intimidating from the very first activity.

JUMP! was founded on a simple but ambitious idea: that transformational learning experiences should be accessible to everyone, not just a select few. The central focus of their teaching is collaboration. Instead of delivering a fixed curriculum, JUMP! designs each session specifically for each group by drawing a wide range of perspectives and real-world experience together. This way every activity feels tailored to the group for the most meaningful outcome.

This idea was apparent in our workshop as facilitators didn’t simply lecture us on what leadership should look like. Instead, they put us in situations where we had to practice it. Separating us into groups and teaching us how to read a room, projecting confidence even when unsure, and keeping us on our toes by forcing us out of our comfort zones. Giving us a collaborative experience that felt uncomfortable lead us to understand that growth happens in a spaces that feel difficult.

For those of us still building our confidence as leaders, the JUMP! workshop offered a low-stakes space to fail, adjust, and improve and to leave with a clearer sense of what we’re capable of.
