Little Basquiat Artists in Year 4

By Hayley Hatfield, Year 4 Class Teacher

Year 4 have been exploring the exciting and expressive work of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. They learned about his unique style, bold colours, energetic lines, symbols and use of mixed media. Inspired by Basquiat’s techniques, the children experimented with different materials and mark-making methods to develop their own artistic ideas. They then created their own mixed-media portraits, combining drawing, painting, collage and expressive details. The children enjoyed discovering how Basquiat used art to communicate ideas and emotions, while also developing their own individual styles. Their finished portraits are vibrant, imaginative and full of personality, showcasing the creativity and confidence of our Year 4 artists.
