Year 13 and Year 7s Join Forces

First time ever – A Treasure Hunt!

At the end of the last school year, Year 13 Senior delegates came up with the idea of playing ‘Treasure Hunt’ with the Year 7s – an initiative to support the newest members of the Secondary School community. Moving from Year 6 to Year 7 is an exciting but sometimes overwhelming transition, and this activity was designed to make that journey easier.

So yesterday, the first day of school, Year 7 students explored the Secondary campus, located key classrooms and facilities and met teachers. The treasure hunt has given them the confidence to navigate their new environment with independence – all while helping them get to know each other.

What made this event particularly special is that it was designed by students, for students. The Senior and Student Delegates understood first-hand the challenges of starting Secondary School and built an activity that was both engaging and useful. Through the activity, Year 7s formed meaningful relationships with each other, as well as with the delegates, who are always available to offer guidance and support. It also gave the Year 7s the practical skills and reassurance they need to feel at home in Secondary life, from finding their way around campus to knowing who they can turn to for help.

“For me, and for the delegates, it has been a pleasure to work with Year 7 during this activity. Watching them collaborate, problem-solve and grow more comfortable in their new surroundings has been extremely rewarding. The treasure hunt has shown that learning extends beyond the classroom – it is about community, confidence and belonging”, said Mathew on behalf of the Year 13 Student Delegates.
