Think Before You Click
What Students Learnt About Online Safety
Last term, Secondary School students took part in an eye-opening cyber crime awareness session organised by Our Rescue Thailand in collaboration with the Thai Royal Police. The aim was simple: to help young people understand how scammers work and how to stay safe online.
The session revealed just how easy it is for scammers to steal personal information. Through real-life examples, students learnt the seven steps scammers use to gain trust and the three main reasons people fall for scams:
- Trust – They make you believe they’re genuine.
- Fear – They scare you into thinking something bad will happen if you don’t comply.
- Greed – They tempt you with offers that seem “too good to be true.”
One demonstration showed a normal-looking website that was actually a scam. Just by clicking the link, scammers could access your location, IP address, email and even passwords.
To make learning fun, the session included quizzes and prizes. These activities helped students test their knowledge and understand the importance of online safety in an interactive way.
The event was supported by senior officers, including Police General Khun Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, Police Captain Khun Purit Jessadakannasoon, Police Captain Khun Phumitud Phisasakda, and Police Lieutenant Khun Patra Nilpradab, who shared valuable insights.
Key takeaway: Always think before you click. Stay alert, protect your information and remember—if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
