As we started Term 2, it was already time to celebrate our IBCP cohort receiving their first university offers.

Careers-related Programme Curriculum

 

The IBCP is designed for students aged 16 to 19 and is studied in Years 12 and 13. It focuses on critical and ethical thinking and development of career skills. The IBCP maintains the core elements of the IB curriculum.  The framework of the IBCP includes: 

2 IB Diploma Programme (DP) Courses:

  • Students undertake two DP courses, which provide a strong academic foundation and develop critical thinking skills. 

Career-Related Studies:

  • Each student engages in their specific career-related studies through relevant International BTEC qualifications, ensuring practical and career learning.

IBCP Core:

  • Personal and Professional Skills: Students hone personal and professional skills, such as critical thinking, communication and ethical decision-making.
  • Language and Cultural Studies: Students continue study on their second langage. If they don’t have a second language, they can pick up a new language. 
  • Community Engagement: Students engage in community service projects to foster a sense of social responsibility and civic engagement. 
  • Reflective Project: A research-based project that allows students to explore an ethical dilemma related to their career-related studies.

Enrichment Weeks - Bespoke to Bangkok Patana

These weeks give enriching experiences that go beyond the classroom. 

Inspiration Week: (November, Year 12) 

A week designed to inspire and launch the course for our specialists. Students participate in workshops, seminars and activities that ignite their passion for their chosen specialism. They have opportunities to meet and learn from industry professionals and experts in their field. 

Industry Week: (May, Year 12)

Students explore industries associated with the specialism, gaining insights into the practical applications of their studies hands-on experiences and networking opportunities with professionals in their chosen field. 

In May 2012 IBCP Arts Specialism students partnered with True Digital to screen a film and host an exhibition at True Digital Park.

Futures Week: (November, Year 13)

A week dedicated to exploring future university and career options associated with the specialism. 

Students visit universities and industries, gaining valuable information about further education and career pathways, providing opportunities to meet with university representatives and industry professionals to discuss potential career options.

Applying to the IBCP at Bangkok Patana School

Admissions Criteria 

  • Holistic Review: We assess applicants based on their academic performance, work ethic, passion for learning and ability to collaborate and contribute to school life. We are looking to see how students demonstrate an interest and passion in their chosen specialism. 
  • Required Documents: Applicants must provide a reference from their current Principal or Head, a transcript or record of grades from their recent school, and any relevant standardised test scores. 
  • Entry Tests: : Students may be required to sit subject-specific entry tests for any preferred Higher Level (HL) courses. 

Process 

  • Application Review: Applications are reviewed by the relevant IB programme coordinator, Vice-Principal of Secondary School, and Secondary School Principal, Placement is subject to agreement on the most suitable option choices, aligning academic ability with future ambitions. 
  • Interviews: All applicants will meet with our team in person or via video call if necessary. This helps us understand their motivations and ensure a good fit with our school community. 
  • Options Process: Once placement is confirmed, students will participate remotely in the options process with the relevant IB programme coordinator to finalise their course selections.
