Transitioning to Secondary School
Year 6 Transition Week
Year 6 students continued their transition journey with opportunities to experience life in Secondary School and gain a better understanding of what next year will look like. During two weeks, students visited different faculties in Secondary and took part in a range of engaging activities. They explored the Science labs and had the opportunity to use Bunsen burners, took part in D+T lessons and enjoyed Drama activities.
Students also spent break and lunchtime in Secondary, eating lunch in the canteen; becoming more familiar with the different spaces they will be using next year. This gave them the chance to explore the environment, practise finding their way around and begin understanding some of the routines and expectations of Secondary life. Students also met Secondary teachers and spent time with older students, helping them build connections and ask questions about life in Year 7.
A sweet gesture was the handwritten letters from the current Year 7s. They included insider tips on life in Secondary, what to look forward to, how to navigate from one classroom to another. Icecream after lunch may have been mentioned more than once!
These experiences are an important part of the transition process and help students develop confidence, independence and excitement as they prepare for the move to Secondary.
