Mithil’s Pathway from Patana to Finance in Melbourne

Next stop Monash University

For thirteen years, Bangkok Patana School has been more than a place of learning for Mithil—it’s been home. Now, as he prepares to trade his familiar hallways for Melbourne’s cityscape, he reflects on a journey shaped by numbers, family bonds and the quiet satisfaction of a well-hit softball.

“It’s scary to think I’m leaving in just thirteen days,” Mithil admits. “I was always looking forward to this moment, but now that it’s here, it feels like I’m letting go of something really special.”

That something includes a close-knit group of friends he’s known for over nine years, and memories built on sports fields and exam-season late nights. A two-sport athlete, Mithil found his stride in both golf and softball—culminating in being named softball captain in his final year. “Sports have been a huge part of my life here. I don’t know if I’ll get this kind of involvement again,” he says. “From golf sessions every Thursday to our first SEASAC tournament in Singapore—it’s all been unforgettable.”

Academically, Mithil has always been drawn to the clarity of numbers. “Math and statistics caught my interest early, but it was business class that really got me thinking about finance,” he explains. Inspired by his father’s work in the jewellery industry, Mithil began exploring the finance side of the family business. “Since I was 15, my dad would give me stones to select or let me shadow him through the factory. It started as curiosity, but I realised how much I loved understanding the process—and especially the value side of it.”

That growing fascination with value, markets, and business fundamentals led Mithil to choose banking and finance as his university pathway. He’ll study at Monash University in Australia, where his sister—a 2018 Patana graduate and current law student—has also paved the way. “She’s definitely my role model,” he says. “Seeing her go through IB, work so hard, and still enjoy life in Australia really inspired me.”

Beyond the numbers and sports stats, Mithil says he’ll miss the simple, daily joys of Patana life most. “The laughter with friends, the Senior area, the celebration after finishing our IAs—those are the moments I’ll carry with me.”

As he looks to the future, Mithil is already thinking long-term. “I definitely want to come back and work with my dad someday,” he says. “Finance is a way to build on something my family has worked so hard for.”

With one eye on the markets and the other on the golf course near his Monash campus, Mithil is set to bring Patana’s spirit of balance and excellence into the next chapter of his life.
