Learning Robotics at Patana

Since August, Bangkok Patana’s Robotics students have been on an exciting journey of innovation, problem-solving and teamwork. In weekly two-hour ECA sessions, students from Year 6 to Year 9 explored the fundamentals of robotics — design, programming and engineering — as they worked to build and refine their own high-performing robots.

The process was anything but simple. Students started by constructing sturdy robot structures with efficient drive systems, then experimented with different collection and delivery mechanisms, from mechanical claws to harvesting wheels and catapults. With each prototype, they tested, analysed, and improved their designs, learning firsthand the importance of iteration and precision.

Beyond building, they delved into coding, developing autonomous movement sequences that required meticulous planning and problem-solving. Every challenge they faced — whether mechanical failures, coding bugs, or unexpected design flaws — was met with determination and collaborative problem-solving. Engineering notebooks documented their progress, allowing them to reflect on their learning and refine their strategies.

The experience has equipped these students with skills that extend far beyond robotics—critical thinking, resilience, and creativity. For those eager to dive into robotics, watch out for upcoming ECAs!
