Curtain’s Up!
Storytelling with a twist
In the final week of Term 2, Year 1 enjoyed a visit from Curtain Up Drama, giving the children a lovely opportunity to experience storytelling in a different way.
The visit began with a live theatre performance, where familiar characters and story moments were brought to life on stage. The children watched with great enthusiasm, joining in at just the right moments and responding so naturally to the action, humour and drama of the performance.
Back in the classroom, that experience continued through drama workshops led by the visiting team. The children stepped into role, explored character, revisited key events and used voice, movement and expression to bring stories to life themselves. There was a great sense of energy in the room as they experimented, joined in and built on ideas together.
The workshops linked closely with the students’ Literacy learning in Term 2. As they have been exploring fairy tales in class, this gave them another way to deepen their understanding of story structure, character and sequence. It also gave them meaningful opportunities to speak, listen, imagine and respond.
It was a lovely way to end the term and to see the children so engaged in the world of stories!
