Digging in the Dirt

Digging in the Dirt

Did you know?

In the first week of Term 2, Year 4 were thrilled to welcome Divergent Drama into school to launch their new learning theme, Digging in the Dirt. The Year 4 academic team created an immersive shared area, transforming it into a jungle dig site filled with hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. Through drama and exploration, students were introduced to the idea of treasure and valuable objects that have been created, lost, buried, destroyed, found and displayed across different times and cultures, sparking curiosity and excitement for the learning ahead.

The drama company brought history to life by stepping into the roles of famous archaeologists, including Howard Carter, Gertrude Caton-Thompson, and Dorothy Garrod. Through guided interaction and storytelling, students were fully immersed in the world of archaeology, using historical facts that they will later explore in the classroom. Inspired by these encounters, students will go on to create their own plays and scenes, developing their understanding of the past while building confidence, creativity and collaboration through drama.
