Last week, the Bangkok Patana community came together in a commemoration of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother. The assembly honoured her legacy as a beloved figure in Thai history and a global icon of style and cultural advocacy, particularly for her support of Thai silk and the fashion industry. In tribute, students and staff were invited to wear national costumes, national colours, school uniform or muted tones, reflecting both personal choice and cultural appreciation. This symbolic gesture served as a meaningful way to celebrate Her Majesty’s life and contributions.
Head of School, Mr Chris Sammons, spoke thoughtfully about Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s enduring legacy. His address invited the audience to pause and consider the significance of the occasion, framing the assembly not only as a tribute to Her Majesty but as a moment to recognise the shared cultural values that connect our diverse community. Khru Pim, our Thai Headmistress, then delivered a tribute to Her Majesty. She spoke of the Queen Mother’s lifelong dedication to the Thai people, her influence on the arts and fashion and her role as a cultural ambassador.
Following a moment of silence, the assembly continued with a processional of national flags, led by Thailand. Flag bearers from each country walked onto the stage in a dignified procession, respectfully placing their flags as a tribute to Her Majesty. The event concluded with an international cultural show, featuring performances dedicated to Her Majesty’s memory. Students showcased traditional music, dance and attire from around the world; followed by an epicurean journey giving a fresh perspective to diverse cultures through the universal language of food.
Special thanks to our PTG volunteers, whose dedication and flexibility helped make this commemorative event a meaningful experience for our community.
