Spotted: Mini Pharaohs Roaming in Primary School!
A Spectacular End to Our Ancient Egypt Topic
Before the end of half-term, if you happened to see mini Pharaohs roaming around campus – this is why. Year 3 students had spent a lot of time in their Art lessons, designing and creating their costumes for Egytpian Day and when it arrived, they were all dressed impeccably for the part.
As part of the project, the children learned a range of new skills, including how to thread needles and sew on beads, which is no easy task when you are only seven years old! They also explored printing techniques to decorate their tunics and proudly printed their names in hieroglyphics, just as the Ancient Egyptians might have done.
Throughout the day, the children immersed themselves in a variety of exciting activities. They enjoyed solving hieroglyphic puzzles, constructing impressive 3D pyramids and taking part in a fun-filled assembly. A particular highlight was the opportunity to mummify their teachers, bringing their learning to life in a memorable and entertaining way.
Egyptian Day provided a wonderful celebration and end point to the children’s learning about Ancient Egypt. Throughout the term, they developed their understanding of Ancient Egyptian civilisation, explored the fascinating world of gods and goddesses, learned about the mummification process and discovered why Ancient Egypt remains one of the most significant civilisations in history.
It was a day full of creativity, excitement and learning, and one that the children will remember for years to come.
