Year 10 Well-Being Rotation Builds Skills for the Residential

Preparing for Adventure

Over the past month, Year 10 students have taken part in a practical and engaging rotation of well-being lessons designed to help them prepare for their upcoming Residential trip to Pak Chong in November. The trip will see students embark on a challenging trek and spend a night camping — experiences that also serve as the practice trek for those undertaking the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

To ensure students are well-equipped, the rotation has focused on four key areas: Well-being and Residential Preparation, First Aid for Residential, Campsite Cooking and Tent Pitching.

In the Well-being and Residential session, tutors guided students through discussions on teamwork, communication and resilience, qualities that will be essential during the trek and camp. The First Aid session equipped students with practical knowledge to respond to common outdoor situations, reinforcing the importance of safety and responsibility in unfamiliar environments.

Meanwhile, the Campsite Cooking and Tent Pitching sessions brought a hands-on element to the rotation. Under supervision, students learned how to safely use Trangia cookers to prepare simple meals and practised pitching and packing tents efficiently — vital skills for the upcoming residential and future outdoor adventures.

These lessons have not only prepared students with practical skills but also encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and confidence ahead of their time in Pak Chong. With excitement building for November, Year 10 are ready to embrace the challenges — and rewards — of their residential experience.
