Year 3 Journey to Ancient Egypt

Year 3 Journey to Ancient Egypt

Through the sands of time..

Year 3 stepped out of the present and into the sands of Ancient Egypt for a day of discovery, creativity and a little bit of chaos – well, in the best way.

This term’s focus on Belonging found its heartbeat in Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx, a gripping tale that led pupils through pyramids and riddles in search of family and identity. Inspired by Marcy’s quest, our young historians dove into the world of pharaohs and gods with curiosity and flair.

In preparation, they stitched their own Egyptian collars (with admirable patience for needle threading!) and printed t-shirts adorned with hieroglyphs of their own design. The results were as bold and brilliant as the children themselves.

The day was packed with hands-on adventures: cartouche crafting, pyramid building and the great tomato unwrapping – yes, mummified tomatoes! The highlight? Two brave teachers wrapped head to toe in assembly, courtesy of some very enthusiastic junior embalmers.

But beneath the fun was something deeper. Exploring Ancient Egypt gave students a tangible sense of history, how people lived, what they valued and how stories shape our understanding of the past. It’s a foundation that will support their learning for years to come.
