Fostering Successful Transitions for Year 6

Fostering Successful Transitions for Year 6

An exciting new chapter awaits

As our Year 6 students prepare for the next chapter of their school journey, we’ve been delighted to see how positively they’ve responded to transition activities as they prepare to move to Secondary School.

Being part of a shared campus is a real advantage. It allows our students to become familiar with their future surroundings in a way that feels natural and reassuring. Over the past few weeks, Year 6 students explored specialist classrooms and experienced taster lessons in Science, Drama, Art, DT and Music; experiences that have sparked curiosity and excitement about what lies ahead.

Break and lunchtimes in the Secondary Canteen gave students a taste of the daily rhythm of Secondary life, while the presence of Junior and Senior delegates offered a friendly face and a helping hand. Many Year 6 students were thrilled to reconnect with older siblings, friends and familiar faces, helping them feel a sense of belonging in their new environment.

The strong communication between our Primary and Secondary teams has ensured that every child feels safe and supported throughout this process. These sessions are more than just a tour—they’re about building confidence, nurturing independence and helping each child feel secure in the knowledge that they are ready for this next step. Year 7 students shared letters they had written in English class, offering advice and answering common questions about life in Year 7. They read their letters aloud, helping to ease nerves and give the younger students a clearer picture of what to expect in the year ahead.

We’re incredibly proud of how our Year 6s have embraced this opportunity. Their curiosity, resilience and enthusiasm have shone through, and we look forward to seeing them thrive as they move forward.
