Captivating coral creations
In an exciting voyage of discovery, Year 7 students have recently delved into the captivating world of coral and its importance for the underwater ecosystem. Exploring various aspects of these remarkable creatures, they have discovered the intricate lives of coral polyps, the symbiotic relationship they share with zooxanthellae and the crucial role of the corals.
The Year 7 classroom turned into a model-making-workshop as students put their creative skills to the test. Under the guidance of their geography teacher, Mr Stuart, they embarked on a mission to recreate the coral reef and polyps. From recycled materials to paper mache and clay, each student expressed their imagination in crafting stunning miniature reefs and polyps.
The model-making class not only fostered artistic talents, but also deepened the students’ understanding of the importance of coral reefs and the need to protect these fragile ecosystems. It served as a reminder of the wonders that lie beneath the surface of our oceans and the responsibility that our generation bears to protect them. Through this exploration, the students have gained an appreciation for the significance of coral life and its vital role in our world. After all, coral reefs are the rainforests of our ocean!
