Musical Momentum Builds …

… with Manchester Musical Youth Residency

The cast of Bangkok Patana School’s 2026 production of Little Shop of Horrors received an exciting boost earlier this month when members of the Manchester Musical Youth company joined rehearsals for a four-day residency.

From the moment they arrived, the team brought energy, professionalism and a clear sense of purpose to the rehearsal room. Working alongside students, they guided the cast through harmonies, staging and choreography for two key production numbers, helping bring the show to life in a remarkably short space of time.

Within just 24 hours, strong relationships had formed between the visiting practitioners and the student performers. By the second day, the progress was evident as students grew in confidence and developed their skills under expert guidance.

Dave, Kimberley and Jasper created an inclusive and supportive environment in which every student felt valued and encouraged to contribute. Their approach empowered students to take creative risks, embrace challenges and strive for excellence.

However, the success of the residency was also a reflection of the students themselves. Throughout the intensive rehearsal period, the cast demonstrated commitment, focus and resilience, approaching demanding schedules with enthusiasm and maturity. Their willingness to collaborate and support one another highlighted the strength of Bangkok Patana’s performing arts community.

Reflecting on the experience, Amy Penn, Creative Director of the Secondary Musical, said, “What impressed me most was not only the expertise that Manchester Musical Youth brought to our rehearsals, but the way our students responded. They embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, worked incredibly hard and showed real professionalism. The progress made in just a few days was outstanding, and we’re excited to build on that momentum as we continue our journey towards Little Shop of Horrors.”

With a strong foundation now in place, the cast is looking ahead to the months of rehearsals to come. The residency has provided valuable inspiration and momentum as preparations continue for what promises to be another outstanding Bangkok Patana production.
