Pink in Action

A Community Coming Together for a Greater Cause

October saw the Bangkok Patana community come together in support of a cause that extends far beyond a single event or awareness month. Through Secondary School’s annual Pink Day and the Pink Charity Tennis Tournament, students, staff, parents and community partners united to raise funds, increase awareness and support the vital work of the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer (QSCBC).

Pink Day in Secondary School served as a reminder of the importance of awareness, compassion and collective action in the fight against breast cancer. Organised through the Secondary Community Engagement team and CanCure, students and staff supported a fundraising bake sale, with proceeds directed to the QSCBC. Last year’s efforts enabled a donation of THB 35,000, and this year’s contributions continue that important work, supporting initiatives such as the Centre’s outreach programmes that provide breast cancer education, screening and care to some of Bangkok’s most underserved communities.

In a recent letter of appreciation to the School, QSCBC Honorary Advisor Finola Chatamra highlighted the Centre’s extensive work supporting patients across Thailand. Alongside its comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services, the Centre operates outreach programmes that have provided screening and awareness education to communities in greater Bangkok for more than two decades. It also supports patients through Pink Park Village in Minburi, which offers care and convalescence for some of the country’s most vulnerable women.

The Centre is also at the forefront of breast cancer research. Recent contributions include participation in international clinical trials exploring more personalised treatment pathways and research that has helped advance understanding of metastatic breast cancer. Such work continues to improve outcomes for patients both in Thailand and around the world.

This spirit of support continued on the courts during the Pink Charity Tennis Tournament, where players came together for a day of friendly competition and fundraising. Organised through a partnership between the Bangkok Patana Tennis Academy, the Bangkok Patana PTG and the SILC Samutprakan International Women’s Group, the event was described by QSCBC as a tremendous success. In her letter, Finola Chatamra expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Tennis Academy, the many parents who participated, and SILC for their commitment and contribution to the event.

The Pink Charity Tennis Tournament and Pink Day also provide an opportunity to reflect on the remarkable legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, whose vision established the foundation for the QSCBC. Her lifelong commitment to improving women’s healthcare in Thailand has helped create programmes, facilities and research initiatives that continue to save lives and provide dignified care to thousands of patients and families.

As October draws to a close, the message remains clear: breast cancer awareness is not confined to a single month. Through fundraising, advocacy, education and community action, the Bangkok Patana community continues to support life-changing research, improving access to care and helping build a future where early detection, treatment and support are available to all.
