Celebrating Interculturalism in Year 6

Colourful costumes, fantastic foods and traditional trinkets in Year 6

Students in Year 6 have begun their unit of connected learning focused on celebrating Interculturalism, with the driving question of “How can cultural differences make our communities stronger?” To introduce the unit, students brought culturally significant items to school to present to their classmates. Such items included traditional costumes, culturally relevant foods, religious artefacts and national symbols.

Celebrating their unique range of cultures, Year 6 students then were asked to reflect on their peers’ presentations. Students identified the cultural items that they had never heard of before, the ones that really peaked their interest and the ones that they would like to learn more about. Through curious and respectful reflection, students are immersed in the value of diversity.
