‘Freedom’ at the Dance Extravaganza

‘Freedom’ at the Dance Extravaganza

Expressing ‘freedom’ through movement and music

The Dance Academy’s end-of-year showcase, the Dance Extravaganza, was a huge success with 196 dancers performing a wide variety of styles and skills. The theme this year was “Freedom”, with coaches and dancers interpreting this through their choice of music, costumes and conceptual messages.

The Dance Extravaganza further included performances by the Tiger Cats Dance Teams. The Under 11 Team A performed to “Freedom” by Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar, highlighting the issue of racial injustice. The Under 9 Team transported the audience back to the 1960s as they rocked to Bill Haley and Chubby Checker. The Varsity and Junior Varsity Teams also produced power-packed performances and two solo performers, Jessica Basin in Year 13 and Ana Bolakoso in Year 8, created their own choreography. A highlight was the Samba performance by the DanceSport Team, showing off their ‘batucadas’ and ‘bota fogos’ in their glamorous red costumes.

As the 2022/23 year comes to an end, watch for the Dance Academy at their next performance opportunity – the End of Year Assembly!
