Students welcome the Year of the Rat
The happy sounds of Gong Xi Fa Cai and Happy Chinese New Year have been filling the school all week as students prepare to usher in the Year of the Rat.
Dragons, envelopes with money, lion dances, dumplings, and of course rats, were part of this year’s Chinese New Year celebration activities for Year 7 MFL classes. The corridors and classrooms had auspicious Chinese signs in red and gold. Students could expand their global citizenship by exploring this important celebration in German, Japanese, French, Spanish, and of course, Mandarin.
Primary students also got in on the action learning about ancient Chinese instruments, the lunar calendar, red envelopes and much more at their Chinese New Year assembly. Gymnasts took to the floor as did dancers from the Dance and Drama Academy. Drummers and the dragon entertained the students before the Lion Dancers came out and got the crowd roaring.
Xin Nian Kuai Le, everyone!
