Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

What are your small steps?

Today, we join 192 countries in celebrating the 55th Earth Day – a global movement sparked by the first Earth Day in 1970, when 20 million people rallied against the impact of 150 years of industrial development. Since then, Earth Day has grown to spotlight vital issues like climate justice – the belief that those who’ve contributed most to climate change have a duty to support those most affected. As the UNDP (2025) reminds us, climate change is not just an environmental issue—it’s a human rights issue.

At Bangkok Patana, we’re taking action. Our SEC (Roots & Shoots) students have helped power over 70 homes with solar electricity in Pang Wua Village in Chiang Mai. They also delivered oscillating fans to help families cope with the summer heat—another powerful step in climate resilience!

Bangkok Patana was one of the first schools in Thailand to install large solar arrays. Our Year 3 students also stepped into the world of renewable energy with a visit to our rooftop solar panels. After learning how light behaves in the Secondary Science Centre, they explored solar-powered toys and made powerful connections between science and sustainability.

Our Transport Department has also been getting into the action with EV buses transporting some of our students.

We’re also excited to welcome Patana alumna Sri Hollema on April 29th to speak about Mat Zero and what climate action can look like beyond school.

This year’s theme: ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. Let’s make it count!
