Interculturalism in Year 6

Interculturalism in Year 6

Year 6 celebrate their diverse cultures through learning and food.

Year 6 are exploring interculturalism and what they think it means. Throughout the unit, they learn about the different cultures of their peers and what it means to be diverse and inclusive. They explore the book ‘Thai-Riffic’ by Oliver Phommovanh who identifies as a third culture kid; he was born here in Thailand but grew up in Australia. One of the highlights for the students was reenacting a scene in the book about a shared love of food. They held a multi-cultural feast sharing their favourite foods from their cultures.
