Our World Languages teams had the privilege and pleasure of welcoming Dr Gianfranco Conti to Bangkok Patana to observe lessons and provide feedback on curriculum development. An international keynote speaker, professional development provider, writer of instructional materials, blogger and author of books on language pedagogy, Dr Conti is also the founder and CEO of www.language-gym.com and co-founder of www.sentencebuilders.com, two websites that our students use to develop their language skills.
Dr Conti began his visit by teaching French to a group of Year 4 students, followed by meetings with the Primary MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) teachers to help improve curriculum design and delivery in the three language choices currently offered: French, Mandarin and Spanish. Dr Conti observed lessons in each language, provided feedback and discussed next steps with the MFL teachers. Following Dr Conti’s encouragement to embrace the EPI (extensive processing instruction) approach for Secondary language learners from his previous visit to Bangkok Patana, the Secondary World Language faculty reviewed the Key Stage 3 curriculum, ensuring more opportunities for students to gain mastery and fluency in their MFL.
Dr Conti’s visit provided the opportunity to evaluate the impact this approach has had on our students. He is additionally facilitating a dynamic and practical workshop to language teachers from Bangkok Patana and 90 additional delegates from regional international schools. This workshop will focus on the EPI model and the MARSEARS framework, both of which support successful language learning.
