Primary Musician of the Year

Primary Musician of the Year

Phum Viphurit took the first prize in the Primary vote for Musician of the Year.

Primary Music students have enjoyed learning about new musicians each month and voted on the Musician of the Year. Over the last nine months, the students learned about a wide range of music styles through the Musician of the Month programme. In September, they learned about salsa with Celia Cruz and about rock with Nandi Bushell in October. Phum Viphurit (who visited the school in November) talked Thai pop, while they learned about soul and funk with Stevie Wonder in December. January saw Indian classical music with Hari Prasad Chaurasia, European classical in February with Yo-Yo Ma and again in March with Evelyn Glennie. April featured the choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Khun Wallop of Bangkok Patana’s Music Department was the star in May.

Winner of the Year!

In June, the children reviewed the musicians and voted on their favourite. Every single musician received several votes which means they were all somebody’s favourite. This shows the diversity of our students’ tastes and the importance of having a wide range of music. Phum Viphurit was the biggest vote winner – enjoy his video below. Nandi Bushell came second while Yo-Yo Ma placed third.
