A Gold Standard for Learning

A Gold Standard for Learning

The newly constructed Discovery Centre receives the LEED Gold certification.

There is something special about achieving Gold, but this one isn’t about a trophy, a medal or a place on the podium.

Our newest building, the Secondary Discovery Centre, has achieved Gold-level LEED certification.

“Bangkok Patana School Discovery Centre has achieved LEED Gold under the LEED v4 Building Design and Construction (BD+C) with 61 points, making it the highest-rated LEED-certified K-12 school in Thailand as of November 2, 2026,” said the US Green Building Council, the organisation that awards the certification.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a globally recognised standard for sustainable buildings. Certification considers everything from energy and water use to materials, waste and indoor environmental quality, with Gold representing one of its highest levels of achievement.

What makes this achievement particularly meaningful is what happens inside the building every day: learning.

This is a building filled with classrooms, students and teachers; a space designed for the way our community learns today, and also with consideration for the world our students will inherit. Sustainability isn’t only something our students encounter through lessons, projects or conversations. It is part of the environment in which they learn.

Achieving Gold provides an opportunity to look beyond the certificate itself and consider what thoughtful, responsible campus development can look like in practice. For Bangkok Patana, that matters.

As our campus continues to evolve, new facilities need to do more than provide excellent spaces for teaching and learning. They should also reflect the values we want our students to carry with them: making considered choices, using resources responsibly and understanding that sustainability is something we can put into practice.

The certification is worth celebrating and it is also a starting point. It represents another step in our continuing efforts to develop a campus that serves our community while considering its wider environmental impact.

A Gold standard, then, not simply for a building, but for the future of learning at Bangkok Patana. A very proud achievement in our 70th anniversary year!
