Year 11s Study the Motion of a Falling Ball

Year 11 Physics students are using online tools and practical experiments at home.

Year 11 Physics students are investigating “How does the height from which a ball is released affect the time it takes to reach the ground?” Since their (I)GCSE exams have been cancelled, the students are participating in a Pre-IB Programme. In Physics, they are learning some of the theory behind propagating uncertainties and the motion of a falling ball. They share ideas using an online collaborative whiteboard while in class. Next, they use their smart phones to take video clips to determine the actual time of the falling ball. Finally, they will share their results through a Google Doc and analyse the results together in class. It’s not easy to do practical work during CSL, but with a bit of ingenuity it’s still possible!
