This term, our Year 4 students embarked on an exciting journey as Young Entrepreneurs, discovering that successful ideas are built on creativity, collaboration, resilience and a desire to make a positive difference in the world.

Inspired by the vibrant atmosphere of fairs and carnivals from around the globe, students were challenged to design and create their own fairground games using recycled and repurposed materials. Throughout the project, they explored how entrepreneurs identify opportunities, respond to the needs of others and transform imaginative ideas into meaningful experiences.

Across the curriculum, students developed a wide range of skills. In Geography, they investigated fairs and celebrations around the world and considered how these events shape communities and cultures. They explored currencies and exchange rates, learning how money connects people globally and how it has evolved over time. As Historians, they examined the development of money and trade throughout history. In Mathematics, they collected and interpreted data through market research, helping them make informed decisions about the types of games people would enjoy most.

The heart of the project lay in Design and Technology, where students worked collaboratively to plan, prototype, test and refine their fairground games. Through this process, they developed important life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, communication and perseverance. By using recycled materials, they also demonstrated their commitment to sustainability and responsible citizenship.

The term culminated in our much-anticipated Year 4 Funfair, where families, staff and students came together to enjoy an afternoon of creativity, laughter and community spirit. The enthusiasm and support shown by the Patana community were truly inspiring. Even more importantly, all proceeds raised will go towards our Year 4 charities, reinforcing the powerful message that entrepreneurial thinking can be a force for good.

This memorable experience has shown our students that with imagination, determination and compassion, they can create something extraordinary from the simplest of materials.
