Lost in Pages: Celebrating World Book Day!
Students and Staff across school dropped everything to read on the spot!
If you had a problem finding someone at Bangkok Patana today, it was probably because they were lost behind a book! We celebrated World Book Day by starting off with DEAR – Drop Everything and Read. At 9am Miss Thew announced that we Stop Everything And Read – pick up a book and indulge in quiet, uninterrupted reading. Students and teachers across the school enjoyed reading for pleasure for ten minutes.
World Book Day is celebrated annually to promote the love of reading across all ages. One of the many activities of our World Book Day celebrations was the buddy reading sessions which took place across the Year groups in The Primary School. Key Stage 3 students made their way to Nursery and Foundation Stage to read to their younger counterparts. Buddy Reading sessions create a sense of community and collaboration among students while promoting literacy skills. Our younger students hear different reading styles and are happy to connect with the older students, whilst our older students develop empathy, leadership qualities and a sense of responsibility.
World Book Day helps remind us of all about the importance of reading. The activities students engaged in help to foster a love for reading, emphasizing the importance of sharing stories and experiences through literature. Even Tuk Tuk our school mascot took part in the celebrations as he surprised students at the end of the day with a story as part of our Mystery Reader activity.
World Book Day at Bangkok Patana was about reading, but even better we were able to share stories across the school. A book is even better when it is shared!
