COVID-19 Update 4th Jan 2021

Due to spread of the COVID-19 virus, the government has ordered a closure of all schools in Bangkok.

The Ministry of Education and the BMA confirmed that all schools in Bangkok must be closed from Saturday 2nd January until 31st January 2021.

Dear Parents,

I hope you’ve had a safe and enjoyable festive season, Happy New Year!

Continuing Student Learning (CSL) will go live on Monday 11th January.

Parents and students are not permitted on campus until further notice. The school principals will be in contact with students and parents with more specific details on the CSL programme. IB Trial Exams will be rescheduled. We will not be altering our confirmed 2020/21 academic calendar.

As this is the second COVID-19 lockdown the school has experienced, we are confident in supporting students learning from home. Once again, we will be using Microsoft Teams as our key platform. We reviewed our CSL programme throughout the first lockdown and it was clear that the programme became more effective over time. We are fully aware that having Early Years children at home is a much more challenging task. As we did previously, we will survey the quality of our CSL programme on a regular basis.

We hope that you can support your children to complete the learning activities provided. Some of them will include learning with devices, while others may not, similar to the student experience during a typical school day. Although many of these resources are already regularly used in school, we hope that your child(ren) have opportunities to try something new or demonstrate their learning in new ways during this period.

At the core of our CSL programme is the well-being of your child(ren). Establishing a healthy daily routine is critical; supporting your child(ren) in achieving this early on is key. The daily ‘check-in’ registration is at 7.40am for our whole community. It is an opportunity to start the day ready to learn. Children who have checked into and engaged with CSL during the day are regarded as attending school. Teachers will be in contact if children are ‘absent’ without prior notice from their parents.

All learning for Primary students will be posted in the CSL Year Team blogs, we encourage you to subscribe so that you can be an integral part of the process. All learning for Secondary students will be posted as tasks on Firefly. You can access these tasks via the Firefly for Parents App (Android / Apple). The school code for the app is available on the Parents’ Gateway.

If you have general questions about our CSL programme please contact primary@patana.ac.th and secondary@patana.ac.th. As usual, if you have concerns or questions about your child’s particular learning, please contact their class teacher/tutor, or their subject specific teacher in Secondary. If you require technical support to access our resources, please contact helpdesk@patana.ac.th.

As in the previous lockdown, it is my intention to send out regular communications to parents.

Here is an interesting video with different perspectives on the pandemic. Enjoy the rest of your holidays.

Best wishes,

Matt Mills Head of School
