Former Finance Minister Meets Thai Home Language Students

Key Stage 4 students had the chance to learn more about the challenges facing Thai speakers in an English environment.

Key Stage 4 students taking Thai as a Home Language enjoyed meeting former Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij at a special guest presentation.

Although Khun Korn attended Primary school in Thailand, he finished Secondary in the United Kingdom. He went on to attend the University of Oxford earning a Bachelor’s in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. He understands well the dilemma of Thai speaking students in an English language environment. After graduating, he worked in investment banking but returned to Thailand to start his own company. He talked with the students about the challenges he faced returning to Thailand and speaking Thai regularly.

K Korn reminded students that using their Home Language is important, not just if they want to stay in the country but also as a part of their culture and heritage.

He also talked to students about the importance of managing their finances, as a former Finance Minister, he should know!
